Driveway Cleaning Guide
Driveways and patios in Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells take a beating from Kent weather. Moss, algae, weeds and tyre marks build up quickly, especially on block paving and shaded patios. This guide explains why it is worth doing, how driveway cleaning works and how to keep the surface looking good afterwards.
Why clean your driveway or patio?
A clean driveway is the first thing people see when they arrive at your home. Moss and algae also make paving slippery in wet weather, and weeds growing between blocks slowly push the joints apart. Regular cleaning keeps the surface safe, tidy and lasting longer.
How pressure washing works
We use a commercial pressure washer with a rotary surface cleaner, which lifts dirt evenly without leaving stripes. Stubborn spots are worked by hand with a lance. On softer surfaces we turn the pressure down or use a soft wash so the paving isn't damaged.
Block paving, tarmac, concrete and patios
Each surface needs a slightly different approach. Block paving usually needs re-sanding after cleaning to refill the joints. Tarmac needs lower pressure so the surface isn't stripped. Indian sandstone and natural stone patios are cleaned carefully to protect the stone.
Keeping it clean afterwards
- Sweep leaves off regularly in autumn so they don't stain the surface.
- Pull out weeds while they are small.
- Book a clean every 1 to 2 years, or sooner on shaded patios.
